FFAIRSTAR PRINCESS / P&O
‘Satisfying sleek contours, smooth surfaces and a strong
sense of design are yours for the taking.’
A
distinctly feminine version of the modern, Art Deco presented an image of
modernity which was as much about dreams and fantasy as it was about the
realities of living in the first half of the twentieth century. The
architectural references are found in the face, crown and the waterfall
curtain, which in it’s original function was a allusion to the wake of a
ship, here placed as a bustle and providing a closer evocation of a ship’s
wake. The title Fairstar Princess also references a ship. The
connection of a ship and a journey is well known strengthening the
relationship with the title ‘Homeward Bound’.
